Today, it was officially announced that Scotland’s Isle of Skye is “twinned” with the fantastical Skylands, home of Spyro and his Skylander friends.

The concept of twinning was introduced after World War II, to create and foster understanding, tourism and friendship between two unique cultures.

“”The Isle of Skye is renowned for its stunning landscapes, which possess an almost ethereal quality,” said Scotland tourism maestro Alan Mackenzie. “Its abundance of wildlife, and stunning natural beauty makes it the perfect virtual twin for Skylands, home to Skylanders SWAP Force. We’re thrilled to be teaming up with the Skylanders franchise for this unique partnership, which will help raise the profile of this beautiful part of the world, encouraging families to enjoy a real-life adventure on the Isle of Skye – nowhere else on Earth comes close!”

In celebration of the official twinning, Wash Buckler inagurally visited Portree Primary School, as well as some of the island’s most dazzling landmarks.

In addition, the Skylanders Swap Force have taken over the Isle of Skye’s tourism homepage at www.skye.co.uk , and you can see the Swap Force shenanigans by typing SWAP on the page!

We’re thrilled to welcome the Skylanderscharacters to the Highlands,” said Thomas Prag, Chair, The Highland Council’s Planning Environment and Development Committee. ”This is an unusual project, as we can’t sign an actual deed of twinning due to the limitations getting paperwork to the Skylands. However, we were delighted to see Wash Buckler visiting the Isle of Skye, and hope his visit encourages many more people to look for adventure in the Highlands.

Skylanders Swap Force is available NOW and is rated E for everyone!
